I installed Manjaro on my X1 Carbon as, Ubuntu 24.04 was a nightmare to try to get working (From the first boot, the fan was stuck on full speed all the time). No matter what I tried, I couldn't get it fixed. Before that, Windows 11 wasn't much better as, the fan would kick on if I just had a few browser tabs open! lol. Constantly hearing the fan rev up and slow down got annoying! Anyways, once I got Manjaro installed, and I noticed I could use Firefox and my fan NEVER went on. I thought for a minute maybe it wasn't configured correctly but, it was! Idk why windows 11 struggles that much but, I'm happy I switched because my laptop barely even gets warm now on the bottom of it. Besides that, everything seems to work pretty good. (I do get this weird 'pop' sound from my audio every few seconds though) I'm going to try the guided archinstall script from the video and, do a clean install. (Hope everything runs as good as Manjaro afterwards). Maybe one day, I'll give the full install a try. Anyways, thanks for making a great, detailed video on it!

It's still beta and Docker Cuda doesn't work since it doesn't yet support 24.04. That's sad however the new Cuda is apparently working with 24.04 but not docker. Its sad they push this version while it isn't ready yet. I had to learn that the hard way, migrated from Win to Ubuntu 24.04 since 22.04 hangs on install, probably because the updates in the repository, they either broke it accidentally or on purpose. Gotta say since I tried linux about 17 years ago it came a long way, I remember I once installed it but the whole repo bs was too much to just to make it read my sound and video card. It's faster than windows, less childish than apple, and even though I use Docker container without Cuda support its faster than windows with Cuda lol how funny is that? I've been on mac since 2012, last 3 years I'm on both win + mac, this my first day after finally setting up everything in linux(Ubuntu 24.04) I can say it eats windows with closed eyes. less bs, less clog and quite neat aesthetics. Let's hope they will make this version support everything the previous version supported and basically be a fully tuned/ready version before they drop another one in the next 6 months and push everyone to update, Apple done influenced this type of thinking in a lot of companies which is f sad. Great video, appreciate you fam.

I'm using Linux Mint on an old Late 2013 MacBook Pro. I actually prefer Linux Mint over MacOS. Both are Unix based and it shows, it took very little time to get up to speed with Linux Mint. IMO, Linux Mint is a perfect way to repurpose older Apple computers. It loads faster than MacOS and does everything I need plus more.

chaotic? Why? I fail to see any chaos, quite the opposite. You dislike snaps, but again why? They seem to me useful. For flatpaks and appimages to be better than snaps (I need to listen to any reasonable argument to that effect) is neither here nor there. We, millions of ubuntu users (in my case it is lubuntu), do not claim that our chosen distribution is necessarily the best one, let alone that other distros are bad or wrongly implemented, in the same way as, when I buy a pair of shoes, I am far from thinking my choice is the best possible one. Nor is my home the best possiible home. Simply, it is good enough. Hankering after the best embitters your life.

For some reason this reminded me of the “Evil Corp” in Mr. Robot. I’m glad I never supported what Canonical started doing some years ago and moved away from Ubuntu. Both Canonical and Red Hat (now IMB owned) are evil corporations if you think of how much they have separated from the original philosophy of Mr. Torvalds and Mr. Stallman. They were the all fathers of what we have today: Freedom to choose. It’s a sad thing what’s happening with these Companies. We must be grateful that Linux is still Linux no matter what and there’s a community that still supports the original values and principles of freedom.

Hello Jay! I would love to see a video about QEMU from you one day, you did mention it briefly in a video 2 years ago 🙂 Also a fun project for everyone: On Win11 I created a Linux VM but on a partition of my actual harddrive, so I can either dualboot into linux oder boot into windows an launch my real linux system in the VM, which is a great idea if you have a windows work laptop where you also want to use your private linux on, but can't switch during working hours. So you just access your system via the vm. After work you restart and boot into your linux directly, that's great!

It's like aviation safety. The mainstream media only show anything substantive when it goes wrong, but that is a tiny minority of the millions of perfectly safe flights between air accidents, never mind the number of potential accidents that never happen because the original mistake or malfunction was caught by one of the many systems in place to do so. But many of the general public are still nervous flyers because all they see in the news are accidents, despite flying on scheduled commercial flights being comfortably the safest form of travel which has ever been devised.

You kind of lost me! You deleted the ssh_host-* files and zeroed out the machine-id file in the "master" lxc, then made a template of it. When you clone that template, shouldn't that clone regenerate new and unique ssh_host_* and machine-id files when it's started? or did I miss something.
